1.7 Control levels

The level of functionality of the MOTIF Editor/Monitor can be adjusted according to the level of the user. The program may be set up to enable users to modify and update job data, perform job monitoring and interaction or both of these options. The control level is cond using the Control menu.

The two selections on the Control menu are Allow job control and Allow update data. These options will be explained in the following section.

1.7.1 Allow job control

The Allow job control option enables the user to perform all functions involving the running, stopping, suspension and resumption of jobs. This is usually a user who is in charge of job execution. When turned off, the Allow job control feature limits access to all job control features.

1.7.2 Allow update data

The Allow update data. feature enables a user to perform modifications of jobs, layouts, job groups, directories, calendars and other options. In the context of the MOTIF Editor/Monitor this is an extremely powerful capability. By disabling these editing functions, the user is limited to performing job execution, stopping, suspension and resumption as well as viewing job information.

1.8 Getting help in the MOTIF Editor/Monitor

Help is available throughout the MOTIF Editor/Monitor. All Command Center icons, forms and individual fields have direct access to help text by simply highlighting the item and pressing the HELP key. In addition, the menu system accesses a variety of help topics pertaining to various areas of the program.

1.8.1 Context sensitive help

Help can be accessed at any time within the program by highlighting an item in the program and pressing the HELP key. For instance if you want to get help on a particular icon in the Command Center, you would select the icon with the mouse, move the mouse away from the icon and press the HELP key. Help would be displayed describing the icon.

If you wanted to get help on a field in a form, you would highlight the field and press the HELP key. Help would be displayed describing the field.

1.8.2 Help menus

The Help menus available on the Command Center and the Job Group Windows provide access to topics related to menus, general features of the program and graphical representations of icons.
