1.6.3 Form fields

Form fields are used to enter data into forms. In forms that contain pre-existing data, the data may be deleted or overwritten. Though most fields are filled manually there are several other ways to enter data into fields in the forms. These methods are described in the following section.

1.6.3.1 Directory selection forms

The forms used to create, display, modify, copy and delete job, directories and calendars all use the directory selection method. This is a shortcut used to limit selection to only preexisting directories, calendars and jobs.

The method utilizes a form listing directory, subdirectory and job (or calendar) names as shown in Figure 1-16

The user selects the directory, subdirectory and job (or calendar) names and the selection is automatically built up in the field below. This avoids the possibility of making an incorrect entry by accidentally entering incorrect names for pre-existing items.

In addition, the text in the Full job name field may be manually edited using the keyboard. This will be necessary whenever new jobs, calendars, or directories are being created.

1.6.3.2 Compose... buttons

The Compose... button is used to fill in specific information in a field, such as a date. The data is composed using sliders and buttons that create the string in the correct format required for the field. For instance, a date field requires the date to be entered in the following format.

By selecting the Compose... button beside the field shown in Figure 1-17,

the input may be created using the dialog box shown in Figure 1-18.

As the figure illustrates, the date may be composed by moving slider controls to the correct setting or by selecting a date such as Today or Yesterday and adjusting from there.

The other compose button which may be encountered in the program is the Time Offset compose button. Rather than creating a specific time for an event or procedure to take place, the time offset creates the time delay between events. This can be either a positive or negative number. Figure 1-19 shows the Time Offset shows the Time Offset dialog.

1.6.3.3 Choice... buttons

The Choice... button is used when only a limited list of data is valid for a particular field. The Choice... button is shown in Figure 1-20.

The choices may be the job name in which case the list would be the same as the directory selection forms described in Section 1.6.3.1.

Other cases may bring up a list of available choices that may be selected for insertion in the form. This is illustrated in Figure 1-21.
