1.2.3.11 Suspend Job

To place a job on hold, select the Hold Job icon and click on the job to be held in the queue. The job will be held until it is released using the release icon.

Note

The ability to suspend the execution of a job in the K or L queues is dependent on a number of factors. The first and most important of these is the performance and complexity of the system. The ability of the icon to reflect the current state of the queue is dependent on a latency that may occur as the queue state is updated in a multiple cluster or remote server environment.

Another factor that may cause a difficulty in suspending the job is that if a job does not perform DCL commands, it may not be stopped. Usually, jobs that have a designated delay in the K and L queues and perform some DCL commands are able to be aborted using the suspend function.

1.2.3.12 Resume Job

To remove a job from the suspend state, select the Resume Job icon and click on the job to be resumed. The job will continue from the point it was held.

First, click on the job to be used as the initiate and drag the cursor to the job to be initiated. A line will be drawn with an arrow pointing to the job to be initiated.

1.2.3.15 Establish Prerequisite

To establish a prerequisite between two jobs, click on the Establish Prerequisite icon. The cursor can then be used to create a prerequisite from one job to another. First, click on the job to be used as the prerequisite and drag the cursor to the job to be submitted upon completion. The line is drawn from the prequisite to the subsequent job. A dot will be placed on the line closest to the prerequisite.

1.2.3.16 Modify Job Dependencies

First, click on the initial job and drag the cursor to the job it has a dependency with. Next, release the cursor. A dialog box will appear which can be used to either remove or change the type of dependency.

1.2.4 Job Group Menu Bar

Job groups are windows that contain a set of jobs usually linked by interdependencies. As you will see later in this chapter it is possible to display several job group windows at a time (known as a layout). The Job Group Menu Bar is located at the top of job group windows. These menu selections are associated with the job group in the window selected.

For example, you can add a job to the current group by selecting Job from the Include menu. You can also change the zoom level of the jobs in the window or the orientation of the jobs in relation to each other. The main thing to keep in mind is that these menus affect the current job group only and not any other group in the layout.

The menus are described briefly below:
