B.2 Wildcards

ESeveral different wildcards are recognized. They can be used in file Dnames, job names, calendar names, and user name specifications. The various wildcards are:

ASTERISK (_*): An asterisk will compare any number of characters. C For example; A_* will compare successfully with ABC, AAAA, and A.I
PERCENT (_%): A percent sign will compare with any one character. G For example; A% will compare successfully with AB, AX or AA, but not with A or ABC.E
ELLIPSIS (...): Ellipsis can only be used in a file directory H specification. It indicates that all sublevel file directories are to be examined.

FThe above wildcards can be combined into a very complex search string.

EIn particular, the job specification "[*]*,[*.*]*" will traverse the 9complete directory tree to access all of the jobs in the ;SCHEDULE database. Correspondingly, The directory Gspecification "[*],[*.*]" will traverse the complete directory tree to @access all of the directories in the SCHEDULE database.H

B.3 Text strings

DMany fields allow text strings to be supplied. Text strings with no Gembedded blanks do not need to be enclosed with quotes. All others do. For example:

Modifying displayed text

C.1 Phrase tables

6All words and sentence fragments (or phrases) that areFdisplayed in all the menus, forms and reports that are coded into the Gsystem can be modified. This includes all OUTPUT from the SCHEDULE DCL Ginterface, REPORT writer, SCHEDULE MCL interface and the Graphic Tools interfaces. ¹

?All coded phrases are looked up in a table. One of these tablesHexists for each of the various display languages (i.e. English, German, BFrench, etc.). The language name is determined by looking for the Hlogical name SYS$LANGUAGE. The tables can be viewed and modified by use of the PHRASE utility.

HBefore making changes to this table be sure to check that you have read Fand write access to the corresponding file. Lack of write access will Bprevent the table from being updated on exit from the editor. For Cexample to edit the German phrase table follow the below procedure.

GThe default editor is TPU/EVE. Adding /EDT will call up the EDT editor instead.

HEach entry in the phrase table is composed of two lines. The first line +is the coded phrase (typically English) andGthe second line is the equivalent. NEVER change the first line. Always Fplace the replacement text into the second line. Below is a sample of this.
