6.14 Version 7.0 changes and additions

Many new features have been added and numerous errors discovered and corrected in this version of EnterpriseSCHEDULE. They are listed below.

Support for OpenVMS running on the Itanium platform (IA64) has been added. The complete EnterpriseSCHEDULE Server has been fully implemented on the IA64 OpenVMS Platform. Motif and Command Line clients are also provided. The IA64 OpenVMS Server is able to co-operate with all other EnterpriseSCHEDULE servers on supported platforms - OpenVMS, Tru64 UNIX, HP-UX, SUN Solaris, Linux and Windows NT/2000/XP/2003. Job streams can be constructed with dependencies across any of the above platforms. In addition, the EnterpriseSCHEDULE Windows Client can be used to connect to a scheduling server on IA64 OpenVMS and manage the jobs in the same way as on all other supported platforms.
A new grouping of systems, WORKGROUPS has been added. This allows a group of machines to be defined as a Workgroup. Jobs can then be automatically distributed among nodes. One mode will allow a job to be executed on the least busy member of the workgroup.
EnterpriseSCHEDULE events can be optionally logged to an event file on all platforms. Settings in the EnterpriseSCHEDULE parameter file determine whether job and/or server events are written to the EnterpriseSCHEDULE event file. The new event file provides more extensive and precisely formatted data, to simplify subsequent automated reprocessing of schedule event data. Server events are also written to the standard server log file, as previously. Job events include submitted, started, completed, delayed and failed events, in accordance with the flags set in each job's notify section.
An EnterpriseSCHEDULE Server can keep a journal/audit of all changes made to the schedule database. Settings in the EnterpriseSCHEDULE parameter file determine whether journaling is enabled and, if so, where the journal file will be located. Every change made to a schedule database can be recorded, indicating the entity changed (job, variable, calendar, etc.), the change made and by whom.
In the VMS CLI interface a new command option KEYSTROKES allows for the quick construction of the commands for a job. This option will record the keystrokes you use to perform an operation directly as you carry out the operation. In this way the commands you issued can easily be repeated as needed just be starting up the job.
On Windows server EnterpriseSCHEDULE events can be logged to the Windows Application Event Log. Settings in the EnterpriseSCHEDULE parameter file determine whether job and/or server events are written to the Windows Application Event Log. The severity threshold of server messages to be logged can also be specified.
In the Windows GUI user definable job Prototypes have been implemented, enabling entire groups of jobs to be defined in a consistent manner. New jobs can be created from prototypes, allowing job attributes and commands to be pre-set for applications that require a fixed execution environment. Prototypes can be easily distributed across multiple scheduling servers. A family of provided predefined prototype jobs may be installed.
In the Windows GUI the job submission dialog and job properties can customized on a per job basis. This feature enables jobs to be configured so that, when they are to be submitted, a specified subset of the job attribute fields are presented to the user to fill in. The prompts for these fields can be text relating to the application, which is meaningful to the job and user - e.g. "Invoice number:" or "Report date:".
In the Windows GUI, directories can be automatically turned into layouts. This easily allows a layout to be automatically created out of a group of jobs in one directory. Just right click on the directory and select "open as a layout".
Post process analysis of log files. A job's log file can be scanned for text values to enhance completion status processing of specialized applications.
Parameter file allows user definable script engines. This enhances the standard ISE command interpreters to read specific scripting languages. The added choices appear in the Windows GUI Submit property page command interpreter dropdown.
VMS Server log readable while Schedule server process is running It is no longer necessary to stop the server process in order to read the current log file on OpenVMS VAX, AXP and Itanium servers.
Option "Expand data in the left pane of the explorer" added to the explorer option window. Allows user to toggle whether the left pane displays objects such as jobs, calendars etc.
New "nodes" menus added to job submit page, monitor console and "View specific log" window Added to allow easier selection of nodes connected when submitting jobs, monitoring jobs or viewing logs.
Suppression of the Job submit page "Advanced" window for Unix The command interpreter selection has been moved to the Job submit page.
The Port number to use to connect to the server can now be modified in the GUI Port number can be changed through the Controls property sheet.
More controls added to editor Added the "Goto line", "Find", "Replace" and "Select All" functions in the GUI editor window.
